Stupid Garmin

I really am sick of my Garmin now.  I can't believe something which costs so much money can be so rubbish!  I know they're expensive but I'm thinking that the Suunto route is the one to go down.  Apparently they do far more extensive testing on their products before putting them out there and so there are less problems with them.

Today, my Garmin decided not to turn on.  It just hung on the 'Garmin' load up screen.  It finally turned on about half a mile into my run through Manchester with Rachel.

It was a nice easy run at 7.30am which set us up for the day ahead.

Total distance - 3.2 miles

  1. Look at the polar m400 Christa, i have one with heart rate monitor, great, accurate piece of kit.
    Very informative software as well.

    1. Hi Mick,

I just had a look at the M400, it looks really good! Seems to do an awful lot for very little money when compared to the Garmin I have (which was £230 and doesn't seem to do anything extra). Reviews of it are mostly good but there are quite a few saying it broke after a few months. How long have you had yours for and have you had any trouble with it? I want something which will give me the usual basic details - time, distance, pace, elevation and also give me the option of interval training. Does it let you set your own programmes, i.e. one mile warm up, 5 x 1/4 mile repeats with say 60 seconds rest then a cool down or is that a bit too technical? Finally, does it sync to Strava? Sorry for all the questions :)

  2. I've had no problems with mine, polar to strava is on its way (update end of October site says) the m400 is a very good running watch, it's more accurate than the garmin I've found, software is great (polar flow) this watch does what iI need but it sounds like you need a little bit more..... Look at the V800 Polar now that should do everything you need, the idea is you wear these all the time even sleeping, it tells you how well you have slept, you set your daly goal and it even sounds an alarm when you have been inactive for to long, " time to get moving "is says on the watch. I love it ! Are you on the hills tomorrow ? I'm out hopefully with the Wfdbwgua crew. It would be better if I show it to you before you buy, software and all, I'll bring my laptop.

    1. Thanks again Mick. It sounds really good! Unfortunately I'm not out tomorrow as I'm away tonight. I didn't realise you were back out with the Saturday morning crew, great news :-)

    2. Update... there are apps out there to link the polar to Strava now, I have just been informed by a colleague
Still, have a look at the V800, I looked at it but half the stuff on it I would not use but you should find it suits your training schedule.
Just one little tip you might find useful regarding your calorie intake and feeling hungry soon after ....Porridge... try adding almonds (Ground if you wish) or walnuts to porridge – nuts slow down the release of sugar from the oats, your body has used all the Sugar/Glucose in one go and the craving you feel is the body wanting more...slow the release down. Google it, Its true and works, I've done it for years.
